Started
in 1988 and working in partnership with Bolton Metropolitan Borough
Council, the Bolton Wildlife Project has many functions, all with
one common theme - to raise awareness and promote the use of locally
important wildlife sites and green spaces in Bolton.
From
the School Grounds Project to Local Nature Reserves, food-growing
opportunities on community allotments to conservation volunteering,
the Bolton Wildlife Project has been successfully supporting people
and wildlife in Bolton for almost 20 years.

With
the opening of the new Environmental Resource Centre scheduled for
autumn 2006, its future is assured.
Current
projects include:

Volunteering
There
are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the creation and
conservation of wildlife habitats in Bolton.
Bolton
Conservation Volunteers Mid-Week Group goes out every Wednesday
and Thursday working on wildlife projects around Bolton. Get involved
and you will have the opportunity to work on woodland management,
wildflower meadow creation and management, creating and looking
after ponds, planting trees and new hedgerows, rebuilding dry stone
walls and much, much, more!
As
you learn new skills, you will enjoy visiting interesting places
in your local countryside with like-minded people.
Come
along and make new friends, enjoy a great social life, find out
about wildlife, have fun and keep fit into the bargain!
The
Mid-Week Group work on sites across Bolton and beyond including:
Seven
Acres Country Park, Doffcocker
Lodge, Longworth
Clough, Wigan
Flashes, Clifton Moss, Eatock
Lodge and Hall Lee Bank
Park.
In
addition to these interesting sites, work is also carried out at
local schools and on community allotments. Since 1988 over 100 schools
and colleges have been assisted with the construction of environmental
areas and wildlife gardens.
If
this doesn't sound like your idea of fun, why not volunteer on one
of our community allotments? Learn to grow organic food in a wildlife
friendly manner, and enjoy the produce while you're at it!
Alternatively
come and help in the office! We always have publicity which needs
creating, databases which need building, mail-outs which need sending
and endless other tasks.
Work
placements can be arranged if you require experience either for
college, university or as a stepping stone to paid employment. Contact
us on 01204 663754 to arrange a chat.
