We have a window of opportunity to protect our marine wildlife!
Can you help us?
By 2012, the Government has pledged to set up Marine Conservation Zones, underwater nature reserves that will protect and restore vast areas of habitat for marine wildlife.
The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside is determined to ensure this deadline is met.
We also have a small window of opportunity to influence where these Marine Conservation Zones will be and we intend to push hard to get them in the right places, to have the greatest impact.
We know fragile marine habitats are being damaged by pollution, dredging and trawling, affecting marine life like crabs, dolphins, seals and basking sharks.
We also know that sea habitats can recover and species that have been lost will return and thrive.
With your help we can make it happen. Here’s how we can do it...
By working with Cumbria and Cheshire Wildlife Trusts, we have the chance to secure a grant which will enable us to be a strong voice for North West marine wildlife. However, we can only access this grant if we can get match funding of £30,000.
Please will you help us by making a donation? For each £10 you donate we could secure a further £60 in grants. So, a donation of £10 or £20 from you will mean £70 or £140 respectively, goes towards our crucial marine work.
With your financial support, we could put in every resource needed to influence the designation of Marine Conservation Zones. In the North West, the zones must be correctly placed in the Irish Sea.
It really is a ‘one off’ opportunity and that’s why we are appealing to Trust members, like you, to donate if you can.
