If you are planning a trip to our beautiful reserve at Mere Sands Wood, why not help bring it to life by listening to one of our new Audio Trails?
We have three different Audio Trails on offer, each full of useful information and tips for how to get the best out of your visit. They're free to download and all you need is an MP3 player and you're all set for a fun and informative exploration of the reserve.
Mere Sands Wood History Trail
If you want to find out more about the history of our nature reserve and the surrounding area, this is the Audio Trail for you. Featuring interviews with Reserve Manager Lindsay Beaton, John Trapp, who helped establish the reserve in the 1970s, Geology lecturer Steve Suggitt and volunteer Jane Ingham, you'll go on a journey through time as well as a fantastic walk around Mere Sands Wood.

Mere Sands Wood Sensory Audio Trail
The sights, sounds and smells of a nature reserve are what keep us all coming back, and this sensory trail will help enhance your experiences by guiding you to the best places to experience the reserve at its best. While it is an Audio Trail that will be enjoyed by everyone, it has been designed with the help of Galloway's Society For The Blind to help the visually-impaired gain a greater enjoyment of their visits to Mere Sands Wood. For a magical exploration of our beautiful nature reserve, this sensory trail is the perfect companion!

Professor Dumbleberry's Hi-Tech Audio Trail
Those two Audio Trails will keep the adults entertained, but what about the kids? They won't want to hear from stuffy experts and specialists, but they will love being guided around the reserve by the eccentric and exciting Professor Dumbleberry. He's filled Mere Sands Wood with his hi-tech gadgets (cunningly disguised as bird boxes) and will use their help, along with that of his dog, Pants, to tell your kids all about the history of the reserve and the wildlife that lives there in a funny and educational way that will keep them enthralled throughout. If you want to inspire them about the natural world, this is a great way to start!.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I download an Audio Trail?
Simply right click the audio trail link and select 'save target as.......' (or similar). You will then be prompted to save either the individual track or a folder containing all the Audio Trail files onto your computer (depending on the audio trail and what you have selected). The files are contained in a 'zipped' folder, this simply saves you having to download each file in turn. Open the folder using Winzip or similar (most computers have it installed as standard, otherwise download a free version available from the internet). Follow the prompts and once you have accessed the files you can download them to whatever media device you have available.
If your device lists artist and album information then you can find the audio trail by either looking for the audio trail title in the albums section or by looking for either www.audiotrails.co.uk or audiotrails.co.uk in the artists section.
What equipment do I need to listen to an Audio Trail?
Basically anything that plays music. If you want to listen to it on site then the easiest way is to download the audio trail onto an MP3 player, iPod or mobile phone, but you could download it onto your computer, burn a CD and play it on a portable CD player. There are MP3 players available for hire at the reserve, free of charge, though a deposit of £20 or other security (eg, car keys) is required to borrow them. You don't need to actually be on site either, you may just want to listen to it on your computer before you leave to give you some information before you visit.
