Wild About Food is all about getting the local community in East Lancashire involved in growing their own food, learning the nutritional value of food and getting people closer to nature and the environment.

Happy volunteers at Basil Street Allotment in NelsonEngaging The Community

The project has worked hard to set up Basil Street Community Allotment in Colne. Local people working with the project have access to a wide range of events and activities on the allotment, making it an integral part of the community.

Community plots are available and volunteer sessions run to help local people learn how to grow their own food, and have a go themselves. Hanging basket sessions are also run so even those with limited space at home can get involved.

Healthy Eating

An important aspect of the Wild About Food projects work is to teach local children what to do with the food they have grown.  Children learn the importance of healthy eating, the nutritional value of food and even enjoy sessions on how to cook the food.se what they have to the best of their advantage.

Inspiring Children

Sessions are also run for local schools and children's centres, and open days and events are a regular occurence to keep everyone in the local community involved. Children can learn all about growing in pots and even receive their own flowerpot growing kits.

A Tasty Walk

Wild About Food also run a range of wild food and woodland walks to see what tasty treats nature has to offer, and to identify what is safe and not safe to eat.
