About Us

The HIVE is one of the Lancashire Wildlife Trusts most interactive and inspiring projects based at the fantastic Moss Bank Park, Bolton.

Within the site there is a series of unique garden and outdoor spaces which can be explored from our accessible footpaths. Alongside the garden the site boasts many unique interactive features designed with younger children in mind.

The Hive is fully enclosed by a perimeter fence which provides a safe haven where little ones can freely roam the natural world and where parents can relax and enjoy the open spaces. Surrounded by hedges, orchards, meadows, and mature woodland the Hive has been designed to create a backdrop that is perfect for games, relaxation and reflection as well as creating vital habitats for the many species of wildlife.

What do we do at The Hive

The HIVE is a genuine hub for wildlife and families alike. It’s a place where children are encouraged to enjoy nature through imaginative play. The Trust run a wide variety of unique events on the site throughout the year, conceiving engaging and inspiring opportunities for children to play outdoors and make lasting connections with the natural world.

As well as our weekend and school holiday ticketed events we offer Nature Tots, a mid-week session for under 5’s which is operated every Tuesday and Friday morning at 10am. This is a fun-filled educational play programme dedicated to helping pre-schoolers get in touch with wildlife.

The Hive also has an established programme for children’s birthday parties which we deliver on Saturdays and Sundays all year round.

While midweek we open our gates for booked school visits where we provide tailored solutions for education establishments with our bespoke session plans designed to meet curriculum requirements. Also midweek we have run our popular volunteering session where we welcome an army of fabulous individuals who help us maintain the wonderful gardens, woodlands and interactive features.

Any income generated from the Hive is used to improve the site and is invested in the work of the Wildlife Trust locally. So be assured that every penny spent with us will be used wisely to improve the site and the natural environment.
