Marine appeal

We urgently need your help to protect OUR local blue planet

Basking Shark by JP Trenque

Our Irish Sea is a wonderful place.

Beneath the surface there are vast undersea landscapes and diverse communities of marine life. Deep muddy plains support creatures from angular crabs to delicate sea pens, plaice and whiting, seabirds, seals, whales, dolphins and sharks.

However, our Irish Sea wildlife is under threat from damaging fishing activities, marine litter, climate change and developments and we need your help to take action.

We are making a difference

Over the past decade, we have worked tirelessly to urge Government to develop a network of protected areas to safeguard our seas. We have showcased just how special our seas are, to inspire the next generation to look after our precious coasts and seas.

There are now four Marine Conservation Zones (protecting our nationally important wildlife) in the Irish Sea. We have formed relationships with regulators and fishermen to develop effective management plans and encourage sustainable fisheries. At events, thousands of people have added their voices to our campaigns. Children and schools are now taking action to reduce their use of plastics and make a difference to their seas.

There is still so much to do.

There are six more MCZs we want to see designated. We need to keep fighting to secure this further protection of our seas, gathering scientific evidence in support. We want inspire people to provide a wave of protection for our seas. Now is the time when our seas need us the most.
