Maps

KS1 and KS2
A view of a forking path within a woodland, the sun is shining through the trees.

Daisy Vasanthakumar

In this workshop the children will learn about the importance of maps, what they are used for and how to read a map to navigate. The children will work as a class to navigate around the reserve to a woodland location, voting democratically on route. Once in the woodland, the children will explore the area to identify some of the key features and then create their own 3D maps of the woodland using only natural materials. This workshop can be tailored to different age groups, according to the learning objectives (e.g. to include looking at grid references, compass points etc.).
