Costs for school visits

Education Officer Led Full Day Visits

The cost of a full day visit with one Education Officer (up to 35 children/students) is either £275 or £9 per children/students, whichever is greater. If you have more than 35 children/students you will need another Education Officer at an additional cost. So the exact cost of the visit will depend on the total number of children/students that you book for. This is our pricing structure (per visit):

Number of children /students Number of Education Officers required Cost per day

£275

(This is the minimum amount that we charge for a full day visit led by one Education Officer.)

31 – 35 1 £9 per child / student
36 – 61 2

£550

(This is the minimum amount that we charge for a full day visit led by one Education Officer.)

62 – 70 2 £9 per child / student

(This is the minimum amount that we charge for a full day visit led by one Education Officer.)

92 – 105 3 £9 per child / student

All accompanying adults come free of charge. For our Education workshops we require the following adult to child ratios:

  • Primary Schools - 1:8 adult to child ratio
  • KS3 and above - 1:10 adult to student ratio

You are more than welcome to bring more adults if you want to (adults come free of charge). These ratios do not include adults who are specifically assigned as a 1:1 with a particular child, this should be in addition to the requested ratios.

Please note the maximum number of children is dependent on the site:

  • Brockholes - Up to 105 children/students
  • Mere Sands Wood - Up to 60 children/students
  • The Hive at Moss Bank Park - Up to 35 children
  • Lunt Meadows - Up to 35 children/students
  • Bolton Environmental Resource Centre - Up to 35 children

If you would like an exact quote for your visit please get in touch with the number of children/students you would like to bring.

Funded Half Day Visits

We offer a limited number of funded half day visits at:

  • The Hive at Moss Bank Park - Outdoor Learning Experience at The Hive visits funded by the Inflexion Foundation. These visits are only available to schools located in Greater Manchester (between September - March only).

  • Mere Sands Wood - Countryside Stewardship visits funded by Natural England Stewardship Programme. This workshop is focussed on helping children to understand the important relationship between farming and nature conservation.

Please note these two workshops are funded half day visits and cannot be combined with any of our other workshops.

How many workshops should I choose?

Details of our Education workshops are on the workshops page.

The number of workshops for the Education Officer Led Full Day Visits is dependent on the size of your visiting group:

  • For groups up to 70 children/students we run two workshops in a day visit (morning and afternoon). You can choose the two workshops that fit best for your group (subject to availability).

  • For larger groups of 71 - 105 children/students you will be split into 3 groups (each led by an Education Officer) and the workshops will be run as three slightly shorter workshops in a day visit (for logistical reasons). The children/students will swap around the three workshops during the day so they would get to do all of the activities. Please contact us for further details of workshop options for larger groups and our team will be happy to provide further information.

For all our funded half day visits you will take part in one specific funded workshop.

Who will run the session?

Your visit will be run by the LWT Education Team, a highly skilled and experienced team of environmental education specialists who pride themselves on providing exciting and innovative programmes that inspire children and young people about the natural world. We run Education visits at a variety of sites across the region (Brockholes Nature Reserve, Mere Sands Wood, Bolton ERC, The Hive and Lunt Meadows), as well as outreach sessions, Forest School programmes, Forest School training and outdoor learning CPD training for schools/ groups.

What ratios of adults to children are required?

For our Education workshops we require the following adult to child ratios:

  • Primary Schools - 1:8 adult to child ratio
  • KS3 and above - 1:10 adult to student ratio

You are more than welcome to bring more adults if you want to (adults come free of charge). These ratios do not include adults who are specifically assigned as a 1:1 with a particular child, this should be in addition to the requested ratios.

Are your sites accessible?

Wherever possible we try to make our activities as inclusive as possible. We are usually able to accommodate accessibility requirements at Brockholes Nature Reserve, Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve and The Hive at Moss Bank Park.

Unfortunately at Bolton ERC and Lunt Meadows, due to the nature of the uneven paths and outdoor terrain we wouldn’t currently recommend these sites for wheelchair users.

If your group has any accessibility requirements, please let us know as soon as possible when booking a school visit and our team will advise you on the most suitable site and dates for your group.
