In our full day Habitats session at Bolton ERC the children will visit four different habitats – pond, woodland, grassland and river. Within each of these habitats we will talk about their characteristics and what plants and animals are found there. The children will investigate the habitats using different survey techniques and ID guides (classification keys) to explore and identify the different plants and minibeasts/invertebrates found there. The children will go on a minibeast hunt in the woodland and will also have a chance to explore the aquatic habitats through kick sampling in the river. Please note that kick sampling does involve entering the river (in a safe and controlled manner), so children will need to be wearing wellies in order to participate in this activity. We can also cover food chains and/or life cycles in our habitats session if you wish.

This workshop is for suitable for Upper KS1 (Year 2) and KS2, due to the workshop activities and the nature of the outdoor terrain.
