Bright colours on a grey day

Bright colours on a grey day

Song thrush egg by Dave Steel

The wild today offered but a leaden sky which to some degree perhaps should have pleased me for it complemented my head’s sweep of grey that seems to have been further whitened by the recent run of sunny weather...

It was time to search out some colouring before I just became part of this dull weathered day. My search didn't take long for almost shivering in a stand of rain flecked grass a patch of blue cried out to be noticed. This resulted in a two-way result. I gained the privilege of admiring a flash of azure blue and the azure damselfly found warmth which gave it the energy to fly away from the damp grass.

A hatched song thrush egg lying on the path gave more blue-sky substitution and from then on colour flowed into this monochrome day with pair of mating burnet moth adding a splash of black  and red. The day was on a roll as it next gave a patch of vetch which added yellow to this steady amble though day four.

An oxeye daisy which seemed more than happy to hold onto some raindrops made sure that I paid attention to its dazzling white petals which enhanced its sun like centre.

A pheasant tried its best to keep its own array of colours from my camera by hiding in some long grass but unlike the sun it showed itself enough to close my search for a dash of bright on a dull morn feeling that today's wild had succeeded in adding bright spells to this change in the weather.
