August photography competition results

John Cobham

This month’s photography competition theme was ‘Dragonflies and Damselflies’, and we received a fabulous selection of images.

These brightly coloured predators are commonly found in and around wetland habitats. Nothing beats sitting beside the water's edge during the summer months watching these magical insects frantically whizz above the surface of the water.

We’re delighted to announce that the winner of this month’s competition is John Cobham.

Common darter

John Cobham

Our judge selected this photograph for the level of intricate detail captured. They stated ‘the ability and skill required to snap this image of a common darter is impressive. The common darter is usually observed on the move, as it hovers above all manner of waterbodies, darting around to surprise its prey. Therefore, to photograph one stationery is quite the achievement’

Dragonfly

Carol Menzies

In second place is Carol Menzies, our judge loved this photo of a majestic emperor dragonfly and said ‘this dragonflies vivid colour offset against the more muted tones of the natural flora, makes this image really stand out from the crowd. The clarity of this photograph is truly stunning.’

Common blue damselfly

Andrew Spencer

Finally in third place is Andrew Spencer, our judge proclaimed, ‘Andrew has perfectly captured the finer details and colour of this beautiful damselfly, in both a characterful and charming manner, well done!’
