Outdoor Learning

Our LEA approved education centres in Preston, Bolton and Rufford provide our team of experts with the facilities to take learning beyond the classroom. Each centre has its own charm and are surrounded by  a range of habitats and wildlife, making them the perfect locations for hands-on, outdoor learning sessions for all ages.

We also offer a range of educational programmes at The Hive, our food-growing project based at Moss Bank Park in Bolton.

Brockholes Nature Reserve

Easily accessed from junction 31 of the M6 at Preston, Brockholes is the perfect place to bring your school group.

Our fully-equipped education centre forms part of our floating Visitor Village and provides a great base to explore the 106 hectare wetland and woodland nature reserve. Read more about school visits to Brockholes here.

Mere Sands Wood

Mere Sands wood

Located in Rufford, in the heart of the Lancashire countryside, Mere Sands Wood is a wildlife haven of woodland, lakes and meadows, all waiting to be explored.

LEA Health and Safety approved Mere Sands Wood comes complete with classroom facilities and pathways through the woodlands, which provide the perfect setting for minibeast hunts and earth walks.

Bolton Environmental Resource Centre

ERC

The location of the Environmental Resource Centre makes it the perfect setting for children to explore the natural world. Students can step out of the building and have access to pond dipping, grasslands and woodland, all with disabled access.

For more in depth sessions, a ten minute walk leads to the very heart of Seven Acres Local Nature Reserve, where students can engage with a vast amount of habitats including wildflower meadows, heathland, hedgerows, wetlands and the Bradshaw Brook. Find out more about the Bolton Environmental Resource Centre here.

The Hive is a local food-growing project based at Moss Bank Park in Bolton.

The Hive offers a unique learning experience inspiring pupils of all ages and abilities to explore and actively learn about growing food, wildlife and the environment.
