Wild About Wildlife

People taking action for local wildlife

We are proud to be deeply rooted in our local community. We believe that looking after our local environment is the best way we can all look after our planet.

We stand up for wildlife by influencing decision makers and giving a voice to wildlife in danger. We are the local wildlife experts, with a passion for nature that we love to share.

We create wildlife havens in towns and cities, and protect our nature reserves in the countryside. We work with local people to transform neglected spaces into 'breathing places', where they can connect with nature.

We inspire people about the natural world. We invent exciting games and activities for children that reveal the wonders of wildlife. We share our knowledge of wildlife at every opportunity and with all ages.

Land Management
The Trust manages over 2,000 acres of some of the region's most precious wild places in the form of 34 nature reserves, places where wildlife can thrive and people can relax and enjoy the wealth of our natural heritage.

Strategic Conservation
The Trust monitors all planning applications within its area and makes comments where appropriate on the potential effect of the proposals on nature conservation. It provides advice to landowners, from members of the public to farmers, businesses and local authorities, on how best to manage their land for wildlife. In addition, it works in partnership with key agencies to ensure that the necessary legislation and policies are in place to conserve and enhance the region's biodiversity.

Education
With its pioneering Wildlife After School Programme (WASP) and superb education facilities at the Penwortham Environmental Education Centre, run in association with National Grid plc, the Trust rightly places great emphasis on the importance of teaching the younger generation to understand and appreciate the natural world around them.

Community Involvement
Nationally acknowledged as a leading player in the field, the Trust works with a wide range of community groups and individuals in both urban and rural areas, helping local people take action to regenerate their own environment.

Promotion
The Trust ensures that environmental issues remain on the public agenda through a variety of awareness raising events, local and regional media exposure, a range of publications and the provision of visitor centres, the latest being in its environmentally sustainable headquarters building in the Cuerden Valley Park.
