October photography competition results

Trevor Davenport

October has seen our reserves undergo a dramatic autumnal transformation, and with that transformation comes fungi! It was only natural that this seasonal highlight formed the theme of our October photography competition.

This month’s photography competition theme was ‘Woodland Fungi’ and we have received a plethora of terrific photographs. The images wonderfully illustrate the intricate and complex nature of these often overlooked organisms, from the imposing stinkhorn to the more delicate and charming collared earthstar. We are delighted that so many people are continuing to get involved, and we hope that you enjoyed taking your brilliant photographs.

Out of 84 fabulous entries, and after much deliberation, Lisa Naylor’s ‘Woodland Fungi at Mere Sands Wood’ was awarded first place.

Woodland Fungi Mere Sands Wood

Lisa Naylor

Our judge commented that, "The intricate detail captured in this image beautifully illustrates the delicate nature of these fungi. Moreover, the colour and depth makes it jump off the page and captures the autumnal tones of the woodland floor."

Fungi

Diane Taylor

In second place is Diane Taylor. Our judge noted that, "The delicacy of these fungi is delightfully represented here. The composition and lighting really bring out their elegance and the subtle beauty in their emergence from the damp woodland floor."

Fungi - Sarah White

Sarah White

In third place is Sarah White, whose image really impressed our judge.

"This fungal formation is almost otherworldly. It wondrously highlights the awe-inspiring variety of our local fungi."

The winner will be contacted via email with details on how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winner’s photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
