Local Groups are run by some of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust's most dedicated volunteers and offer a wide range of activities such as talks, field trips, work parties and fundraising events.
CROAL IRWELL GROUP
The Croal Irwell Group is based in the Bury, North Manchester and Bolton areas, but also have people coming in from further afield to enjoy the various activities.They manage Summerseat Nature Reserve and hold monthly work parties, as well as running a series of natural history talks monthly in Prestwich, run field trips to sites in the North-West and in North Wales (usually with a tasty pub lunch!)
Activities: Indoor Meetings (Monthly) held on Weds. evenings in the Memorial Rooms, at The Longfield Suite, Prestwich, 7.30pm.Admission £2. Field Trips - usually on the Sunday after the indoor meeting Working Parties - last Sunday each month (except Dec.) on Summerseat Reserve. Start 9.30am. All welcome.

MERE SANDS WOOD (FRIENDS OF)
The Friends of carry out conservation tasks, assist with events and in the visitor centre, promote the Wildlife Trust and help visitors to enjoy the wildlife and habitats of the site.

NORTH LANCASHIRE NATURALISTS' GROUP
Current projects include the management of nature reserves at Warton Crag, Aughton Woods, Heysham and Over Kellet pond. These are all open to the public, and walks and talks for local groups are provided. North Lancashire Naturalists also carry out surveys of sites and wildlife throughout the area. Local atlases of several groups have already been produced and more are in preparation.
Activities: Indoor meetings, start at 7.30pm at the Church of the Ascension, Torrisholme, Morecambe, (church hall in Michaelson Avenue) - second Friday of the month in Winter. There is a charge of £2 towards expenses; light refreshments are provided.

ROCHDALE & DISTRICT LOCAL GROUP
The Rochdale & District Local Group is a small committee who arrange awareness and fund raising events in and around the Rochdale and Littleborough areas throughout the year. Our main events are an Annual Photographic Competition held in August at the Visitors Centre, Hollingworth Lake Country Park, Littleborough with categories for British Landscape and Nature Images for both adults and children with prizes for winners and runners-up. The competition is now well established in the borough and attracts over 100 entries each year from all over the country.
