Barton Grange

Our relationship with Barton Grange Garden Centres is a prime example of partnership working and we are pleased to list them amongst our most active environmental champions and business supporters.  In exchange the Wildlife Trust have been able to offer their advice and expertise in land management of a potential wildlife area adjacent to the new Barton Grange Garden Centre.

We are grateful to Guy Topping and his team for allowing us use of their fantastic facilities to host member’s events, for their generous donation of seeds enabling a wide range of vegetables to be grown by participants at Deepdale Allotments, Preston and for the Christmas Tree we receive from them each year to dress The Barn at this festive time.  We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership and appreciate the support given. Visit their website

Booth & Co. Ltd from its humble beginnings, with just one small shop, to the present day, where the company proudly boasts no fewer than 26 modern foodstores. Business Supporters since 1994, Booths' policy to develop own product ranges in partnerships with local suppliers and producers supports the Wildlife Trusts' aim to foster sustainable living.  We have undertaken many joint initiatives over the years from work party days, participation in cycling events, BBQ tasting session hosted at Cuerden Valley Park, and a Woodland Walks brochure featuring Wildlife Trust sites. We look forward to maintaining this partnership for many years to come. Visit their website

EDF Energy

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust manages Heysham Nature Reserve, part of the Heysham power station site, in partnership with EDF (formerly British Energy).

The Reserve was created in 1995 following construction of the Heysham power stations and supports a surprising diversity of wildlife. Open from dawn to dusk you are invited to explore the area and discover for yourself some of the abundant wildlife that lives there.

The site boasts a classroom which forms a base for hosting environmental education activities, supported by EDF for local schools and youth groups. EDF also run a business bird challenge each year in which Heysham has recorded high numbers of visiting species." Visit their website

Scottish Power

Scottish Power believes that Corporate Responsibility is not just the right thing to do - it enhances their business reputation. Steve Quarmby said: "It goes without saying that companies occupying significant sites have a responsibility to manage their environment in a responsible way and membership of the LWT has been of great help to us in this area. We hope that through our joint activities, our reputation as being trusted with the Environment will be enhanced. Membership of The Lancashire Wildlife Trust has assisted Blackburn Mill CHP with a number of business targets. The Lancashire Wildlife Trust staff and their partners offered guidance in a number of activities including:

  • Development of our Biodiversity Action Plan,
  • Support for our continued certification to ISO 14001:2007,
  • Advice on placing and observing bird and bat boxes, which in turn allowed integration with the local community including cub scouts and schools who have joined staff in siting these and observing their use,
  • Appropriate and wildlife friendly husbandry of surrounding estate including cutting of grass, maintenance of woodlands, and deciding which plants were mostsuitable for use in site planters in order to create wildlife 'bridges'.

When viewed together I believe that the above activities continue to make a significant contribution to life at our site through the year and help us to strike a better work/life balance and provide variety for our staff. As you will be aware, this can lead to improved staff morale and in turn to better retention rates which benefit the business." Visit their website
