There are many ways to enjoy your Wildlife Trust. You may want to come along to a guided walk, a talk given by an expert in the field, a fun day, an opportunity to learn or a day of practical conservation work.

We hope you will find something here to please you.

Most events are free and open to non-members. Those that carry a charge or are restricted to Members will be clearly marked.

VOLUNTEER WORK PARTIES Aughton Woods Thursday 3rd July 7.00pm If you enjoy being out in the fresh air and want to help look after one of our nature reserves then please come along on one of our conservation work parties. The work will involve a variety tasks including woodland management, work on footpaths, and other general habitat improvement works. All tools are provided together with any necessary training. Most of the tasks run from 10.00am – 3.30pm. Stay for as long as you want, but if you do intend staying all day bring along a packed lunch. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing and strong footwear such as walking boots.
Dragonfiles and Butterflies Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve 5th July 14:00-16:00 Guided walk to look out for what's flying about on the reserve.
Medicinal Herb Walk Warton Crag Sunday 6th July 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm Guided walk with a qualified herbalist Sarah Atkinson to look at the healing properties of plants around Warton Crag. Meet at Crag Car Park at Warton Crag, up from George Washington pub, Warton. SD498724.
Mini-beast Hunt Mere Sands Wood Sat 19th July 11am & 2pm

‘Mini-beast Hunt’ with Chantelle Edwards. Chantelle’s appearances at Mere Sands are becoming somewhat of a tradition. Always fascinating, come and see what’s under your feet.

Wildflowers at Warton Warton Crag Sunday 20th July 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm Discover more about the wildflowers that grow on Warton Crag. Meet at Crag Car Park at Warton Crag, up from George Washington pub, Warton. SD498724.
Trees: Wood you believe it Heysham Nature Reserve Wednesday 23rd July 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm Introduction to identification of common tree species, folklore and medicinal value. For both events meet in car park at Heysham Nature Reserve down Moneyclose Lane adjacent to the Power Station. SD406598.
Rock Pooling at Heysham Half Moon Bay Wednesday 6th August 10.00 am – 12.00 am Take part in National Marine Week. Discover what’s living in the rock pools and under the sand when the tide has gone out; crabs, anemones, coat-of-mail shells, shrimps, seaweed and lug worms. Meet at car park at Half Moon Bay south of Heysham Head. SD409609.

‘Wildflower Walk’ with Kim Neal. Is that a Dandelion you’ve just trodden on or the last remaining example of a rare orchid?

Pond Dipping at Over Kellet Pond Over Kellet village Wednesday 20th August 10.00 am – 12.00 am Wildlife search in the watery depths of this special pond. Meet near pond at end of Greenways road in Over Kellet village. SD525698.
Batty about Bats Heysham Nature Reserve Friday 5th September 7.00 pm– 9.00 pm Discover more about these flying mammals of the night with the local bat expert Gail Armstrong. Prepare to be amazed by these fascinating creatures. Remember to bring a torch. Meet in car park at Heysham Nature Reserve down Moneyclose Lane adjacent to the Power Station. SD406598.

The Caring Tree Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve 6th September 14:00-16:00 How the tree provides a habitat for many creatures. Bark rubbings and Leaf Prints.
Bats of Britain Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve Sat 13th September 7pm

‘Bats of Britain’ (with, I’m sure, an emphasis on our own Fledermeeces) with an old friend, Charlie Liggett.

Bryophyte Workshops Heysham Moss and Warton Crag Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th October 10.00 am – 4.00 pm Discover common and rare species of Moss at two contrasting Nature Reserves; Heysham Moss and Warton Crag with one of the leading Bryophyte experts Dr Martha Newton.
