Reaching Out For Wildlife in Bolton was a project funded by the Reaching Communities programme of the Big Lottery Fund during 2008. The project was a big success engaging all sections of the community in taking ownership of their green spaces, learning new skills, creating an awareness about the environment, socialising and improving their health through physical tasks.
During the project the LWT officers worked with schools, community groups and individuals delivering:
- Volunteer opportunities.
- Improvements for green spaces.
- Training.
- Creating a Cleaner Forum.
- Conservation of threatened habitats and species.
Our achievements were:
- 114 and 5941 local people gained formal and informal qualifications, (AQA and John Muir Awards).
- Development of the Cleaner Greener Forum.
- 28 people participated in a 20 weeks food growing training programme.
- Over 100 community groups/organisations supported with 19 funding applications submitted.
- 27 Biodiversity Action Plans contributed.
- 347 local people attending events in nature reserves.
- 881 volunteers day delivered.
- 516 students participating in formal environmental education in Seven Acres.
- Monthly Seven Acres Swifts Wildlife WATCH club events.
- 18 school grounds improved for nature.

Community Wildlife Projects
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust have been delivering environmental projects engaging local communities, schools, universities and members of the public with their green spaces in Greater Manchester for over 20 years. We would like to carry on doing the same good work for people and wildlife.
Wildlife projects will inspire people about their natural world so that they understand the value of, and participate in the work to improve their local natural environment to achieve a rich environment for everyone.
