Making A Bug Hotel

Making A Bug Hotel

Caitlin, Aged 8

To get my wildlife badge at Brownies, I decided to make a bug hotel. I made it out of old bits of wood, and used some leftover green fence paint to make it blend in with the garden.

My Grandad helped me to chop the wood and make the frame. I wanted the bugs to enjoy their stay and so I made two layers with a bar and reception as well as some comfy rooms. I also made a VIP area for any bugs arriving in a limo.

When the paint was dry, I found a nice spot in the garden for the hotel to go. I was worried that no bugs would visit my hotel, then two frogs came hopping along for a visit. I even managed to get a picture of one of them sitting on the roof

(I guess the rooms weren’t quite big enough for him).
