May photography competition results

Brad Hamer

From woodland floors ablaze with vibrant bluebells to striking images of crimson red tulips, we received a glorious selection of entries this month.

This month's photography competition theme was ‘Spring Blooms’, and in spite of the rather damp and soggy weather, the photographs submitted still managed to capture the colour and vibrancy of spring in the natural world.

It was particularly difficult to choose a winner this month as there were so many eye-catching images, but after much consideration Brad Hamer’s ‘Sunburst Amongst Bluebells’ was chosen as the winner.

Sunburst Amongst Bluebells (small)

Our judge absolutely loved this image and stated that, "This photo provides an emblematic representation of spring; bluebells create a carpet of colour in woodlands right across our region and witnessing this natural spectacle is something I look forward to every year."

Spring Bee

Alissa Ferry

In second place is Alissa Ferry’s ‘Spring Bee’. Our judge really appreciated the fact that this vibrant image highlights "The importance of flowers and plants for our native pollinators, and the responsibility we all have in creating wild spaces which allow such creatures to not only survive but thrive."

Bluebells in Tockholes Wood

Kara McCarron

Finally in third place is Kara McCarron’s ‘Bluebells in Tockholes Wood’. Our judge adored this photo, saying:

"This image highlights the intricate beauty of one of our best-loved plants and the wildlife that depends on these delightful flowers for survival."

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
