Meet our Nature Works Delivery Team

Meet the Lancashire Wildlife Trust’s Nature Works Delivery Team and discover the wide-ranging, hands-on work they carry out to help nature recover across the North West.

When people think of conservation, they often picture nature reserves, rare species and community engagement. But behind the scenes, there are highly skilled teams delivering the practical work that makes real change possible. The Nature Works Delivery Team brings together this expertise, combining habitat management and restoration with work in schools and community spaces to create lasting impact for both wildlife and people.

Who are the Nature Works Delivery Team?

The Nature Works Delivery Team is a professional, multi-disciplinary unit within the Trust that delivers conservation, land management and outdoor learning projects for a wide range of clients and communities.

Working across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and North Merseyside, the team supports local authorities, schools, private landowners and internal Trust projects. By bringing together ecological knowledge, practical land management skills and experience in education settings, they help create, restore and enhance spaces where nature can thrive and people can connect with it.

What does a typical day look like?

No two days are the same for the Nature Works Delivery Team, but their work is always practical, varied and rooted in improving the natural environment.

A typical day might include:

  • Habitat creation and restoration – planting wildflowers, restoring peatlands or transforming underused land into wildlife-rich spaces
  • Woodland, wetland and grassland management – maintaining healthy ecosystems through tree work, scrub clearance and habitat maintenance
  • Practical site work – installing fencing, footpaths, gates and other countryside features to support wildlife and public access
  • Vegetation management – controlling invasive species and managing growth to support native biodiversity
  • School grounds transformation – creating outdoor learning environments such as wildlife areas, ponds, sensory gardens and natural play spaces
  • Outdoor learning support – working with schools to design spaces that inspire curiosity, wellbeing and a lifelong connection to nature

From remote peatlands to busy school playgrounds, the team works in a wide range of environments, delivering projects that directly improve landscapes and everyday spaces.

Why their work matters for wildlife

The impact of the Nature Works Delivery Team extends far beyond individual projects. Their work plays a vital role in addressing some of the most pressing environmental challenges:

  • Biodiversity loss – creating and restoring habitats that give wildlife space to recover
  • Climate change – delivering projects such as peatland restoration that store carbon and improve resilience
  • Habitat connectivity – linking fragmented landscapes so species can move and adapt

At the same time, their work in schools and communities helps people experience these benefits first-hand, building stronger connections between people and the natural world.

Working with Lancashire Wildlife trust has been a good experience. From coming out to quote, to organising and carrying out the work it was completely stress free. The team was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. We hope to work with them again in the future and would definitely recommend the team.

Connecting people with nature from an early age

A key part of the team’s role is working with schools to transform outdoor spaces into vibrant, nature-rich environments. By creating greener school grounds, they provide children with daily opportunities to explore, learn and play in nature.

These spaces support not only biodiversity, but also education, wellbeing and climate awareness, helping to inspire the next generation of nature advocates.

A team making a tangible difference

In conservation, progress can sometimes feel slow or invisible. The work of the Nature Works Delivery Team is different, it’s practical, visible and immediate.

Every meadow created, every wetland restored and every school ground transformed contributes directly to nature’s recovery and to healthier and more inspiring places for people.

They are the people turning ambition into action on the ground, ensuring that conservation is not just an idea, but a reality.

As the need to restore nature becomes ever more urgent, teams like this are essential. Through skill, collaboration and dedication, the team is helping to build a wilder future, one project at a time.
