Help us protect YOUR local blue planet

The ocean is an amazing place, but you probably already knew that. What you might not know is just how amazing the oceans off the UK are.

Our Irish Sea is a wonderful place. Beneath the surface there are vast undersea landscapes and diverse communities of marine life. Corals, anemones and seahorses live alongside sea pens, potatoes and cucumbers; fish like plaice nestle into deep muddy plains while 21 species of shark swim gracefully overhead. Stunning seabirds, seals, whales and dolphins feed on the sea’s riches, and this is just the start.

UK seas are home to a whole lot more fascinating species, and they need protecting.

Our muddy zones have the potential to be as diverse as the Amazon rainforest

What are we doing to preserve the Irish Sea?

The wildlife and habitats of the Irish Sea are under threat from damaging fishing activities, marine litter, climate change and developments, and we need your help to take action.

Over the past decade we have worked tirelessly to urge Government to develop a network of protected areas to safeguard our seas, known as Marine Conservation Zones or MCZs. There are now four MCZs in the Irish Sea, but our work doesn’t end there. We have formed relationships with regulators and fishermen to develop effective management plans and encourage sustainable fisheries. At events, thousands of people have added their voices to our campaigns, and children and schools are now taking action to reduce their use of plastics and make a difference to their seas.

There is still so much to do. There are still six more MCZs we want to see designated. We need to keep fighting to secure this further protection for our seas and continue to gather scientific evidence in support. We want inspire people to provide a wave of protection for our seas. Now is the time when our seas need us the most.

David Attenborough

Sir David Attenborough:

“We are now at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet and never before have we had the power to do something about that. Surely we have a responsibility to care for our blue planet? The future of all life on Earth now depends on us.”

You can take action right now

It is within your power to protect our precious seas. Our funding sources are in huge decline and the future of our North West Living Seas Project is now under threat. We need your help to raise £20,000 to continue our work to protect the future of our Irish Sea locally and continue to be a strong voice in the national campaign for more ocean protections. Your donation will be used to unlock further funding to secure the future of our Irish Sea and coastline.

Please take the power into your own hands by making a donation today. Click the button below to find out more about our campaign and to help us raise vital funds to continue safeguarding our seas for generations to come.

Thank you for your support.
