This year’s Biodiversity Challenge Awards overall winner was Network for Nature submitted by National Highways and the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts.

The Biodiversity Challenge Awards 2025 reached a thrilling finale on 24 September 2025 as winners were announced at the WWT London Wetland Centre.

Since the launch of the Challenge in 2013, the industry has continued to excel in going that extra mile to enhance biodiversity. In 2025 the Awards encourage the construction industry to ‘go BIG for nature,’ a bold evolution from the original ‘do one thing’ approach. This shift challenges organisations to place biodiversity at the heart of projects, exceeding standard business practices and compliance with applicable legislation.

Speaking at the ceremony Richard Thomas, Group ESG Director, Trustgreen and chair of the #BiodiversityChallenge judging panel stated: “The Biodiversity Challenge continues to raise the bar for our industry, proving that when we think boldly and act collectively, we can deliver real, lasting benefits for wildlife and people. The 2025 winners are a shining example of what’s possible.”

We are pleased to announce that this year’s Biodiversity Challenge Awards Overall Winner is Network for Nature submitted by National Highways and the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts.

The Network for Nature project restored, created, and connected habitats at over 46 sites across England, reversing habitat loss and fragmentation caused by roads. It went beyond legal requirements, delivering measurable biodiversity gains and improving landscapes for both wildlife and people. Its collaborative, nationwide approach with local delivery is helping drive large-scale nature recovery.

Lancashire Wildlife Trust delivered the Nature for Network project at five sites in the area - Astley Moss, Cadishead and Little Woolden Moss, Holcroft Moss and Red Moss.
