Funding Opportunities
The following grants have been identified by the LWT Nature Works: School Grounds team as potential sources of funding for schools and clients who wish to make nature-based improvements to their setting.
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust has no affiliation with any of the Funds listed, but we wish you luck in your applications and we’re happy to advise where we can.
National Lottery Awards for All – England
Grants are available for charities, voluntary groups, schools and local authorities in England to carry out projects that will improve their local community.
Grants of between £300 and £20,000 are available for up to two years.

Department for Education – National Education Nature Park
The DfE National Education Nature Park grant is providing £3 million to a select number of schools (up to £5,000) to support young people to learn outdoors.

GM Green City - Greater Manchester Eco Grants for Schools
Grants of up to £2,000, can be used on sustainability projects that benefit the school community in one of three priority areas: Waste reduction and circular economy; Climate education focused on sustainable lifestyles; and Sustainable food and tackling food waste.
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund gives grants to communities to improve accessible local green spaces or create new ones where they are needed most.
Tesco Stronger Starts
The focus of Tesco Stronger Starts is getting schools who lack funds and resources to apply for extra financial help they might need to provide healthy food and activities that boost young people’s mental and physical wellbeing.
The Nineveh Charitable Trust
Grants up to £20,000 are available to not-for-profit organisations and schools in the UK for a broad range of projects and activities that promote a better understanding of the countryside.

Ernest Cook Trust – Outdoor Essentials Grant
The Outdoor Essentials Grant is an award to UK state-funded schools to remove barriers and enable pupils to connect to nature and learn outdoors.
The Outdoor Essentials Grant is only available to schools located within the following prefixes: BB, CA, FY, LA, PR

Orchards for Schools
Orchards for Schools is our popular grant programme for UK schools that provides a free pack of fruit-bearing, wildlife-enhancing, carbon-storing orchard or fruiting hedgerow for your school!
Schools that are successful in their application will receive their orchard and/or hedgerow pack, an engaging set of supporting resources and training, designed by experts and teachers, that are linked to the national curriculum.
OVO Foundation Nature Prize – Let’s Go Zero
• Up to £1000
• Annual prizes to support nature projects on school grounds
Learning through Landscapes – Local School Nature Grants
Grants are available to provide outdoor learning training and equipment to schools and early years providers in England. Successful applicants will receive an assortment of nature equipment up to the value of £500 along with a two-hour training session, a school grounds climate survey and a climate curriculum kit (valued at £150).

Moto in the Community Trust
The average grant size is £1,000. Larger grants will be considered based on the strength of the application.
Grants are available for community organisations and schools operating within a 15-mile radius of a Moto site for projects and activities that deliver benefits to local communities.

Lancashire Environment Fund
Up to £30,000
The funding is intended for a wide variety of projects to improve the environment and bring community benefits throughout the county of Lancashire
Projects must:
· Be within 10 miles of a licensed landfill site.
· Have long-term management arrangements where relevant.
· Have full public access (Entrust minimum requirements are four evenings or two days every week, 104 days a year).
· Be located within the Lancashire County Boundary, but excluding Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen unitary authorities.
Earthshot Prize
The Earthshot Prize is an initiative for individuals and organisations from across the world to respond to challenges that aim to restore the environment and ignite a 'decade of action to repair the Earth'. The £1 million in prize money will support environmental and conservation projects that are agreed with the winners.
The Prize will be open individuals, businesses and communities from across the world, across all sectors of industry and society, not just technology. The prizes could be awarded to a range of individuals, teams or collaborations – scientists, activists, economists, leaders, governments, banks, schools, businesses, cities, and countries – anyone who is making a substantial development or outstanding contribution to solving the world’s environmental challenges.

Ford Britain trust
£250-£3000
Supports projects focusing on education, environment, children, the disabled, youth activities and projects that provide clear benefits to local communities close to Ford’s locations.
