Autumn is a time of incredible change in the natural world as the temperature drops and trees lose their leaves. For November's photography competition we asked you to capture 'Autumn Colours' and you didn't disappoint!

We received an amazing selection of images this month ranging from impressive scenic shots of our nature reserves in full autumnal splendour, to close-up images of some lovely seasonal wildlife.

Out of 50 marvellous entries and after much deliberation, John Barton’s ‘Misty Autumn Path’, taken in Wigan,  was awarded first place.

Misty autumn path

John Barton

Our judge commented that ‘The depth of light and colour in this image is breath-taking. The vibrant fallen autumn leaves offset against the more muted tones of the shaded woodland floor, creating a vivid contrast which makes this image really stand out from the crowd.’

Heaton Park

Beata Nowak

In second place is Beata Nowak. Our judge absolutely loved this image and stated that ‘The natural composition in this photograph is almost other-worldly. This photo presents a picture-postcard version of autumn in our region, and perfectly conveys the warmth of the season.’

Autumnal afternoon

Antonia Phelps

In third place is Antonia Phelps. Our judge noted that ‘Antonia has captured an impressive autumnal vista. The photograph highlights the awesome natural beauty present of Brockholes Nature Reserve. Moreover, the diversity of colour in this image - from the crimson red to the burnt orange - creates an autumnal tapestry which could quite easily be regarded as a piece of art.’

The winner will be contacted via email with details on how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.

December’s competition is currently open and has the theme of 'Festive Fun'. As long as the photo has been taken at one of our nature reserves, you can enter whatever image you like, and with 38 nature reserves to choose from, what are you waiting for?

The deadline for entries is 11:59 pm on 31/12/2020 and the only condition is that your photograph was taken at one of our nature reserves. To enter, just email photocomp@lancswt.org.uk (a maximum of three photos per person) or click the button below.
