It is also a fascinating archaeological site and home to one of just a few surviving Mesolithic settlements, providing an inspiring backdrop to learn about Mesolithic history.

A huge selection of activities
We offer a wide variety of workshops for school visits including Habitats, Minibeasts, Pond Dipping, Bushcraft/Survival, Stone Age, Rivers and Environmental Art. For our full range of workshops click below.
Within these activities children will also develop primary skills such as team working, citizenship, basic instincts, confidence in an outdoor setting, emotional intelligence, social skills, health and safety initiatives, sustainability, appreciation and understanding of nature.
Please note that for our workshops we require a 1:8 adult to child ratio but you are more than welcome to bring more adults if you want to (adults come free of charge). This ratio does not include adults who are specifically assigned as a 1:1 with a particular child, this should be in addition to the 1:8 ratio.

In terms of accessibility, wherever possible we try to make our activities as inclusive as possible. However, due to the nature of the terrain at Lunt Meadows, we wouldn’t recommend this site for wheelchair users. This is because of the uneven paths and terrain which would make it extremely difficult for wheelchair users to move around the site for the workshop activities.
If you have a wheelchair user in your group, you may be interested to know that our team also run school visits at Brockholes Nature Reserve (Preston); Mere Sands Wood (Rufford) and The Hive at Moss Bank Park (Bolton), and these sites are more accessible.
A variety of habitats to explore
Previously heavily farmed arable land the reserve now functions as a flood storage reservoir for the Environment Agency. As well as a wetland nature reserve, Lunt Meadows is a fascinating archaeological site home to one of just a few surviving Mesolithic settlements.
