Terry, left, leads a walk at Brockholes

We are sorry to hear of the passing of our great friend and colleague Terry Jolly.

Terry volunteered for the Lancashire Wildlife Trust for close to 15 years, as a ranger and walk leader at Brockholes and helped with volunteering administration at the Barn in Cuerden Valley Park.

Terry also co-ordinated the speaker team for the Trust, helping to spread knowledge and his passion for the wildlife of Lancashire. He was an exceptional photographer and helped us to capture and catalogue some beautiful images from around the county.

On his retirement from volunteering in 2022, Terry wrote proudly of his time with the speaker team. “After 12 years of ‘co-ordination’ of bookings of talks, a current total number of enquiries at 678, a recorded donation accumulation of £15,000 and approximately 15,000 attendees, I plan to step down and let someone else take over. I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the work, and I guess a large number of the county’s OAPs have my name and e-mail address in their organisation books.”

LWT Volunteer Co-ordinator Catherine Haddon said: “Terry was a true gentleman, and it was a privilege to have known him throughout his volunteering at The Trust.

"He began volunteering not long after he retired at the end of 2008 and he would often speak of the tremendous benefits of volunteering that he experienced personally.

"He was well known at Brockholes, a reserve he adored and where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge through leading guided walks. He also spent many hours at The Barn tagging thousands of photographs in our media library and later co-ordinating the speaker team."

Terry’s passing is a huge loss to wildlife in Lancashire.
