Photography Competition Results – December 2023

Zoe Hodkinson

This month’s theme was ‘Christmas Card Wildlife’ and we have received some incredible entries.

December is a wonderful time of year full of festive cheer and celebration. The cold and frosty mornings that this month brings, add a magical winter glow to the natural landscapes all around.

We received some sublime images this month under the theme of ‘Christmas Card Wildlife’. From foxes playing in the snow to some of our festive favourite birds perched on a frosty branch, our photographers have done an amazing job capturing these winter wonders.

Our judges found it very difficult to pick their winner this month as the entries received where all incredible. Unfortunately, there can be only one winner. After much deliberation, the winner for December’s photography Competition is … Bob Hurrell!

Goldfinch perched on the frost covered seedheads

Bob Hurrell

Taken at Lunt Meadows, this stunning Goldfinch perched on the frost covered seedheads, encapsulates the theme of ‘Christmas Card Wildlife’ perfectly! The depth captured in the different layers of this image are incredible. One of our judges explain how they “love the splash of the red facial markings against the backdrop of the whites, greys and browns, like a natural Christmas decoration”.

Frosty Landscape with Sheep

Zoe Hodkinson

Second place goes to Zoe Hodkinson! The beautiful image is a stunning sight to behold. Our judges loved how she managed to capture the simplicity of nature in her photograph. From the frosted ground and sunset sky to the woolly sheep seemingly following each other in a line, it is a beautifully composed image.

Winter fox

Steve Heffernan

Finally, third place goes to Steve Heffernan and his beautiful winter fox! This image hits Decembers theme beautifully. The way he has captured the contrast between the distinctive red coat of the fox in the distance and the white snow-covered landscape around is wonderful.

A huge thank you to everyone who sent in their wonderful images! To see all the incredible entries we received, please take a look at the album below. The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize.
