December is here and as Winter takes hold, we see our reserve change once more.
Whilst we haven’t seen any snow just yet, we have seen some beautiful frosty mornings that have transformed our nature reserves into beautiful winter wonderlands for all wildlife to enjoy. From Roe Deer amongst the frosted reeds to the iconic red breasted Robin, our winter wildlife is a joy to see.
This month’s theme was ‘Christmas Card Wildlife’ and as always, the entries we have received are incredible.
The winner for December’s competition, decided via our public vote, is …. Ashleigh Tuddenham!

Nothing says Christmas quite like a Robin and this iconic little bird won over the hearts of our voters!
The detail captured in this photograph is wonderful. From the way that the light falls on its wings, the clarity of each feather, to the deep orange of its breast, it is truly breathtaking and fits this month’s theme perfectly.
Our voters agreed saying, ‘The angle is perfect’. With others adding that it is ‘a perfect robin’ and the photograph ‘captures a lovely thoughtful looking robin’.
Our runner up this month was Pat Aitchison. Taken at Brockholes Nature Reserve, voters loved how this photograph captured this little robin in flight. The composition of this photograph shows real skill. From the clarity to the lighting under its wings, this image is beautiful.
Once voter added that they voted for this image as it was ‘an unusual, one of a kind image’ with another adding ‘never seen a robin like this – fantastic’.

Our Photography Competition is back for 2026!
Each month we are giving you the opportunity to enter your wonderful photographs into our competition where you will be in with a chance of featuring in our 2027 wildlife calendar and receive your very own copy!
January’s theme is ‘Winter Wildlife Wonders’ and we want you to capture all the wonderful wildlife that braves the winter seasons across our nature reserves.
The deadline for submissions is 11:59pm on the 16th January 2026.
