Photography Competition Results – May 2025

Samuel Wade

The winner has been chosen for May’s photography competition.

This May, we have been blessed with glorious weather that has seen our nature reserves blossom into luscious green spaces full to the brim of wildlife, both old and new.

To celebrate this our theme for May’s photography competition was ‘New Beginnings’.

From new life spotted huddled close to their mothers, to budding plants emerging from the ground, the entries that we have received this month are outstanding!

The winner, decided via public vote, of May’s photography competition is ... Sam Wade!

Tawney Owlet, Cutacre

Samuel Wade

This beautiful little tawney owlet captured the hearts of our voters and fits this month’s theme of ‘New Beginnings’ perfectly. Taken at Cutacre, the clarity of this image is incredible, from the way he captures the Owlet in such detail, as it almost camouflage into the tree trunk, to the green canopy of the tree.

Our voters agreed, with one saying ’The owl, lightning and focus are all spot on’ and another found this photograph to be a ‘beautiful capture of the baby tawny owl looking straight into the camera’.

Runner up

This month’s runner up is Cas Streetly and her fantastic photograph, ‘Now Boarding, Grebe Cruise Lines’. Taken at Brockholes, this image captures a beautiful moment as a mother carries her chicks on her back.

One voter said ‘I like the contrast between the intensity of the adult grebe against the cuteness of the chicks’.
