July photography competition results

Jeff Kirby

Last month’s photography competition theme was ‘Garden Wildlife’. To many people's surprise gardens are home to an abundance of breathtaking wildlife. As a result, we received some wonderful images which illustrated the natural diversity present on our doorstep.

July's theme highlighted the importance of gardens and their role in creating a network of wild spaces. With around twenty-four million gardens in the UK, they can make a huge difference and help to create a vast living landscape.

After much deliberation Jeff Kirby was awarded first place.

Elephant hawk moth

Jeff Kirby

Our judge stated ‘this image of a delightful elephant hawk moth highlights what amazing creatures you can see from the comfort of your own home. This marvellous moth is incredibly quick moving, as a result the skill and patience required to capture this photo with such clarity is mightily impressive.’

Jay

Cory Robinson

In second place is Cory Robinson, our judge loved this image of an inquisitive jay, stating ‘these fascinating birds are often overlooked, however when observed closely their true beauty can really be appreciated. The jay is a highly intelligent and boisterous bird, and Cory managed to perfectly capture this strength of character. ‘

Snail

John Peat

Finally in third place is John Peat, our judge proclaimed ‘simplicity at its best! This photograph of the humble snail highlights the simple pleasures we can all take in observing everyday garden wildlife. Moreover, this image is of a fantastic quality, well done John!’
