March photography competition results

Long-tailed tit, by Sarah Keast

As brighter weather arrives and the natural world begins to transform, there are signs of spring all around us. We received an unbelievable selection of spring themed images this month, which demonstrated the joyous and hopeful spirit of this time of year.

Throughout spring, sunshine encourages growth and greenery, bird song reaches its peak and flowers begin to emerge, culminating in the perfect opportunity to capture some amazing ‘Signs of Spring’.

After careful consideration, Sarah Keast was selected as the winner of March’s photography competition.

Long tailed tit

Our judge adored this image and stated:

"Fidgety long-tailed tits are very hard to capture standing still - so to photograph one carrying nesting material is mightily impressive! This has to be one of the most heart-warming signs that spring is on its way."

Brown hare

Michael Porter

In second place is Michael Porter. Our judge said:

"This image of a brown hare is delightful. The vibrant colour and clarity of this image really makes it stand out from the crowd. Well done, Michael!"

Honey bee

Simon Lundbeck

Finally, in third place is Simon Lundbeck.

"This image perfectly encapsulates this month's theme," said our judge. "The emergence of honey bees is one of the first signs of spring and always gives me that little bit of hope that the dark days of winter are nearly behind us."

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
