LWT welcomes Countryfile

Ellie Harrison and the BBC Countryfile team were filming at Wigan today looking at some of the wonderful wildlife at Wigan Flashes and Three Sisters Country Park.

Ellie interviewed Lancashire Wildlife Trust's Mark Champion and Sue Lonsdale and Edge Hill Biology student Holly Bryce (below), who is currently in the midst of her dissertation.

Mark said: "I cannot reveal exactly why Countryfile were here. That is a surprise, but they were a lovely, friendly bunch and the braved extremes of Wigan weather with a sunny start followed by torrential rain. They also tasted local delicacies by having a pie for lunch.

"Getting Countryfile here gives everyone a lift and it helps us to publicise the work we do. Our work in Wigan is vital to local wildlife."

The Countryfile team spent a full day in Wigan and also filmed on the West Pennine Moors. The show is expected to be broadcast at the end of the month.

Mark (pictured right with Ellie) also paid tribute to Wigan Council and Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust who support the Wildlife Trusts' projects in the borough.
