We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news! Our recent improvement works at Mere Sands Wood are now complete.

This exciting initiative has brought a range of improvements to the area surrounding our Visitor Centre, making the reserve more welcoming, inclusive and supportive of local wildlife and visitors.

The project includes the addition of tramper parking, making it easier for those with mobility challenges to explore the reserve; a shaded gazebo area for relaxation and shelter; beautifully crafted new planters to enhance the visual aspect and benefit local insects; a sensory play area designed to engage young visitors and a bat roost, providing essential habitat for these important creatures.

These enhancements are not just about aesthetics; they’re also about creating a better experience for everyone. Visitors can now enjoy more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable visits, while wildlife benefits from added habitats and sensitive development. The sensory play area encourages connection with nature at an early age, and includes a fabulous mud kitchen, pirate boat, water play table and much more. As part of the work a bat roost has also been installed to support local biodiversity by offering shelter to this key species.

We hope these improvements bring as much joy to you as they do to us. Next time you visit the reserve, be sure to explore our new improvements and don’t forget to let us know what you think!
