As we enter 2026, the new year brings around a renewed love for the outdoors. From crisp morning walks to the amazing sight of our wildlife playing in the snow, January is a wonderful time of year to see Winter across our reserves.
This month’s theme was ‘Winter Wildlife Wonders’. From hunting owls to robins and blue tits perched on branches and so many more, the entries we received this month were outstanding.
The winner, chosen by you via our public vote, is … Raven Grey!

The beautiful little blue tit captured the hearts of our voters. Blue tits are regular visitors to our reserves and this photograph, captured at Brockholes Nature Reserve, is wonderful. The simplicity of this photograph really captures the beauty of this little bird, as the distinctive yellow and blue of the blue tit stands out against the grey and white hues of the background.
Voters loved this photograph, saying how, ‘it’s so stunning and classic’ and that they ‘love the colour’ of this beautiful bird.
This month’s runner up is … Wayne Sorrell with his photograph of a starling at Brockholes.
The detail captured in this photograph is incredible. Voters loved how the starling was the main focus of the picture with one saying that they’ haven't ever seen them so close up before’ and another adding ‘It’s nice to see an individual starling the focus of a beautiful shot.’

February's theme is 'Love in Nature'. We want you to showcase moments that celebrate love, friendship and togetherness in nature, whether it's animals, people or scenic views.
