What is Wilder Carbon?

Wilder Carbon is a nature-based approach to carbon offsetting that focuses on restoring high-quality habitats like peatlands, wetlands and native woodlands to lock away carbon naturally. Unlike many traditional offsetting schemes, Wilder Carbon is built on strong environmental standards that prioritise biodiversity, ecosystem health and long-term impact. It ensures that every project delivers genuine, measurable carbon benefits alongside wider gains for wildlife and people. Projects are carefully chosen, verified and managed by trusted conservation experts, making them a reliable way for businesses to meet climate goals while also supporting nature’s recovery. By investing in Wilder Carbon, organisations are helping to fight the climate and biodiversity crises together, through locally led and scientifically sound habitat restoration.

Why do I need to offset?

Carbon offsetting is a way for organisations (and individuals!) to balance out their carbon emissions by funding projects or areas of land restoration that reduce or remove carbon from the atmosphere. This can include restoring habitats like peatlands or planting trees, which naturally store carbon. It is important because while reducing emissions at the source is essential, offsetting helps tackle the emissions that cannot be avoided, supporting efforts to slow climate change and protect our planet for the future.

Carbon offsetting is a powerful way to take action on climate change while supporting our vital work for wildlife. By investing in our nature-led projects, you are helping to restore precious habitats, lock away carbon naturally and create a wilder, more resilient       future for the North West

Wilder Carbon and BNG – What’s the difference, and why it matters...

Wilder Carbon and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) both support nature’s recovery, but they do so in different ways. BNG is a legal requirement for developers to replace the biodiversity they impact through new developments. It focuses on creating or improving habitats to meet planning rules. Wilder Carbon, on the other hand, is entirely voluntary. It offers businesses the chance to invest in nature-based carbon storage projects, like restoring peatland or woodland, that lock away carbon while delivering real benefits for wildlife.

By investing in Wilder Carbon accredited land with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, you are supporting high-integrity carbon offsetting that puts nature first. These projects are carefully monitored and verified to make sure they deliver genuine long-term carbon and biodiversity benefits. For businesses looking to meet net zero targets in a meaningful way, Wilder Carbon offers a transparent and nature-led solution that goes beyond compliance and helps tackle the climate and nature crises together.
